smartMeme’s video “The Copenhagen Moment” permeated the activist media sphere. Websites like Yes! Magazine and Wiretap re-posted the video. Bloggers from The New York Times, Huffington Post, and climate justice networks used it to spark conversation. Co-Directors Doyle Canning and Patrick Reinsborough believe the video contributed to shift perceptions about climate justice. People from all over the world recognized them at the Copenhagen talks, because they’d seen the video.

“We want to reach people working on ecological and social justice issues with a message about the big picture of climate change,” Canning says. “We want to change the dominant story and be part of a new story of ecological justice.”

Showcasing some of the nations top climate justice activists, “The Copenhagen Moment” is the product of a three-day conference in July 2009. Rough Mountain Studios supports smartMeme to multi-purpose footage from this meeting of minds into a portfolio of educational videos.

Today smartMeme is using this short fundraising piece produced in Fall of 2008 to promote book events across the country for Re:Imagining Change. What was once a downloadable manual has developed into a book, yet the video remains relevant because it conveys the essence of their story-based strategy approach, and testimonials about why their framework produces results. Two years later the views are still clicking on Re:Imagining Change.
